In the quarterfinals, Manchester City were favourites to beat Mauricio Pochettino’s side, as were Juventus when they met Ajax. But football being the wonderful and unpredictable game that it is, proved once again that even the underdogs could emerge victorious....

UEFA said Friday the case against Buffon relates to “general principles of conduct,” and his red card for confronting the referee after Madrid was awarded a decisive stoppage-time penalty. UEFA’s disciplinary panel will judge the case on May 31. The teams were heading for extra time in a quarterfinal, second leg game in Madrid on April 11 when English referee Michael Oliver ruled that Juventus defender Medhi Benatia fouled Lucas Vazquez in the goalmouth....

UEFA said that 641 clubs from 54 national associations had benefited from solidarity payments which were made under an agreement to appease clubs who often complain about the amount of time their players spend with their national teams. For the qualifying matches, an average of 3,536 euros was paid to a club each time one of their players was included in the 23-man squad of a national team, whether or not he played, UEFA said....

It proved a useful warm-up fixture ahead of their UEFA Nations League game against England in midweek, though the visitors were keen to rotate their squad. However, the step-up in weight was to prove a bridge too far for McGregor and he was submitted via rear-naked choke inside two rounds. “Notorious” clearly won round one with his typically aggressive striking, but blew himself up and noticeably tired in the second round which allowed Diaz, who was much heavier and durable than McGregor’s previous opponents, to take advantage when McGregor faded....

On this occasion, he was able to make weight and even came up at 169 pounds. Tyron faced more difficulty but eventually came in at 170 pounds. On the other hand, the co-main event of the night between Nicco Montano and Valentina Shevchenko did not survive, as Montano had to be taken to the hospital with health concerns, and she pulled out of the much-anticipated Title defence. UFC 228 still has a fantastic fight card to look forward to, however, and each fight of the night has the potential to steal the show....

Immediately after his win, former interim champion Colby Covington laid down a challenge for Woodley to face him at UFC 230 at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 3. Woodley heard about the comments made by Covington. While he didn’t outright say Covington is next in the line, the tone of Woodley’s voice made it pretty clear that he would like nothing more than to get his hands on his former training partner....

It was a pretty dull encounter in all honesty but justice was done when the judges this time, awarded Randleman the win and the Heavyweight Championship....

For the co-main event, Amanda Nunes will be moving up to the featherweight division to challenge the champion, Cris Cyborg, for the title. The main event will feature a rematch between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson for the recently vacated, Light Heavyweight Championship belt. In case you didn’t know… In a pre-fight drug screening conducted by the United States Anti-Doping Agency, earlier this month, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Jon Jones, was found to have tested positive, yet again, for performance enhancements leading up to his title fight against Alexander Gustafsson....

The fight card was stacked with finishes and moments that set things up perfectly for the highly-anticipated main event in which Cowboy looked to silence his detractors by pulling off a major upset....
