Calls for the two best female fighters in the world to meet began when Justino destroyed Yana Kunitskaya by first-round TKO at UFC 222 and Nunes beat Raquel Pennington by unanimous decision at UFC 224.

Negotiations appeared to hit a roadblock in July when Justino said she had agreed to face Nunes at UFC 228 on Sept. 8 but Nunes displayed a signed agreement the same day for the bout to happen at UFC 232. In the end, Nunes got what she wanted.

Justino (20-1, one no-contest) is considered the best women’s fighter in the world; 18 of her victories have come via stoppage. She won the vacant featherweight title by third-round TKO over Tonya Evinger at UFC 214 in July 2017.

Nunes (16-4) will attempt to become the third fighter in UFC history to hold two titles simultaneously. She has won seven consecutive fights, including first-round stoppages over Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate.
